Working together to improve hospital care for people with learning disabilities

Amy Cole is the new Lead Learning Disability Nurse at the QE hospital in Gatehead and we're looking forward to working with her as she settles into her new role.

Our Gateshead team and some of our Experts by Experience are going to be helping Amy with some roadshow events for QE staff later this month to raise awareness of her role. We're also going to be working with her on the Learning Disability Diamond standard too.

Here's a message from Amy introducing herself:

"Hi everyone!

"My name is Amy and I am the Lead Nurse for Learning Disabilities for the QE hospital in Gateshead. I absolutely love my job as it is about supporting people who come into hospital to make sure they are getting the care they should be and making changes where they are needed. I was lucky enough to get this job after being interviewed by Ann Groundwater from Your Voice Counts so I will be forever grateful to Ann and your amazing charity who helped me get my dream job!

"Over the next two weeks I am advertising through the hospital what it is I do and how I can help the acute staff. I offer training and general support in making sure the learning disability population are being looked after in hospital the way they should. Next week, 21st-25th June, I will be spending my days within the QE Hub café with some lovely people from your organisation to talk to our staff about how I can help and to advertise the Learning Disability Diamond Standard which will be launching to ensure the care this group receive is consistent."

We'll be sharing more about our work with Amy and the Diamond Standard soon so keep your eyes peeled for more info.
