Nikki Terry has joined Your Voice Counts as our Head of HR to lead on developing our culture, leadership and policies and ensure we continue to be an accessible and inclusive employer of choice.
To mark Stress Awareness Month, Nikki has written a blog to introduce herself and share how organisational culture and wellbeing are at the heart of everything we do at Your Voice Counts.
Leading with Love at Your Voice Counts - blog by Nikki Terry, Head of HR
Since joining the team at Your Voice Counts, I’ve been getting to grips with the vast range of services we offer and learning all about the amazing people and the different policies and processes we have that enable us to deliver such fantastic support to local people.Â
At the heart of all this work, of course, is the ‘how’ we do things and the importance of our organisational culture and values and, while these are much harder to describe, they are what set us apart and what create a supportive and fulfilling environment for us to work in.
The theme for this year’s Stress Awareness Month is #LeadWithLove which really aligns with everything we do and how we do it at Your Voice Counts. For me, leading with love is all about encouraging and empowering our people to treat themselves and others with kindness, compassion and acceptance, no matter the challenges we face.Â
We can only empower people to do this though if we create a culture where people feel safe and supported, so raising awareness of health and wellbeing, encouraging open conversations and providing compassionate support whenever it is needed are always priorities for us.Â
Being person-centred is one of our five organisational values, reminding us to always understand and work with individuals and their needs. This is true as much for ourselves and each other as it is for the people who receive our services. By creating an environment of genuine acceptance, embracing the value in difference and building belonging, we can look after ourselves and our people, which puts us in the best position possible to do the same for all the different communities we support.
